| Botox Botox has become a more common and popular non-surgical rejuvenatory procedure. Many of our patients prefer to use Botox instead of surgical correction for wrinkles and lines. Although Botox is not permanent (lasts on average 5-6 months) it affords patients the option of correction without any downtime. A registered trademark of the Allergan Corporation, Botox is costly because it is tedious to manufacture and because no generic substitute is available.How Does Botox Work?Botox relaxes facial muscles that are related to expression lines. The overlying skin will be smooth and unwrinkled while your untreated facial muscles will still function normally.What is a Botox Treatment Like?This is a simple and safe procedure. We use a tiny needle to cause minimal sensation and to also allow greater precision in delivery of Botox to the specified facial area. You can resume most normal activities immediately. The effects of Botox typically can be seen as early as 48 hours after treatment.What Areas Are Treatable?Botox injections are primarily used in the upper third of the face. Forehead lines, furrows between the eyebrow, and wrinkles around the eyes (“crow’s feet”) respond favorably to Botox.Frown lines (below the mouth) and chin creases may also be improved with a Botox injection, but response here varies among individuals.Am I a Candidate for Botox?Most patients are candidates for this procedure if they have dynamic wrinkles and lines. Patients with neurological problems are not candidates, but as with all cosmetic procedures check with your physician.How Long Does Botox Last?Botox treatments are temporary. On average, effects last 4-6 months with individual variations. Early clinical studies have indicated that the duration of treatment benefits are increased over time so that you could require injections less frequently in the future.Are There Any Side Effects?Temporary pin-point redness at the injection site, which disappears in hours, is the most common side effect.Occasionally, a small bruise may be seen and this is highly variable from patient to patient.In seldom cases, Botox has been reported to cause a temporary drooping of the eyelid.BUT with skilled physician techniques and understanding of the underlying facial muscles, these adverse effects are reduced to less than 1%.Again, because the effects of Botox are completely reversible, any side effects are temporary.What Are the Expected Results?Most patients desire a more youthful appearance. Some prefer to look less “angry”, while others are concerned about preventative therapy. Whatever the reason, the outcomes are the same. Wrinkles that are controlled by muscle movement are reduced and smoothed. Wrinkles from sun exposure or not muscle related will not usually be affected by Botox. Botox will not improve sagging skin or replace the need for a facelift or brow lift.DYSPORTLike Botox, Dysport is a botulinum toxin injected above the eyebrow to relax muscles and reduce frown lines. This FDA approved prescription medication was originally designed to treat muscle stiffness in the wrist, elbow and fingers and treating cervical dystonia. There will a scabbing response; as the scab heals, the tattoo will progressively fade.How are tattoos removed?You can choose safely how you want to remove your tattoo. Laser therapy is the newest and most common method of tattoo removal. The ND:Yag Laser is the laser of choice for tattoo removal. Lasers work by emitting pulses of highly concentrated light that targets the ink by breaking it apart into tiny fragments. With time these fragments are removed by your body’s immune system. Laser therapy allows the removal of tattoos without harming the surrounding skin.What type of tattoos can be removed?All types of tattoos can be removed. Depending on the depth and density of the ink will determine how many treatments are necessary for complete resolution. Tattoos made professionally, by amateurs, traumatically or by surgery can be removed by the laser. Usually greater than 95% fading of the tattoo can be accomplished.How many treatments will it take to remove the tattoos?With each treatment, the laser penetrates the skin and fragments the ink each time, allowing the tattoo to fade. Multiple treatments at specific intervals allow the surrounding skin and tissue to recover from each treatment. Treatment intervals are usually every four to eight weeks, depending on your skin’s recovery time.Can any tattoo be removed?Different ink colors absorb the laser differently. Black ink is the easiest color to remove because it absorbs the light pulses best. Lighter colors such as orange, yellow and green can be the most difficult to remove. After the first treatment, we can estimate the number treatments necessary to remove the entire tattoo.Is the process painful?Some discomfort may be expected, just like when you had the tattoo applied. With the laser treatment you may feel a sensation like a “rubber-band snap” at the site. The discomfort will fade momentarily. Prior to treatment and upon patient request, a topical anesthetic or local anesthetic can be applied to minimize any sensation during the treatment. Even though, the results of tattoo removal are faster without the use of a local anesthetic.What type of post-treatment care is necessary?After the treatment, an antibiotic ointment is applied with a bandage. Applying an ice pack can reduce any possible swelling. Afterwards, daily cleansing and application of the antibiotic ointment for a few days will facilitate healing.Are there any potential side effects?Few side effects are seen after laser treatment. Some patients may experience minimal redness or swelling at the site. The site may be tender and form a scab after treatment. This is part of the normal healing process. With laser treatment, pigmentary and textural changes such as scars may occur. This scarring is uncommon and over time the tattoo will fade and your skin will return to its normal color. | |

| Restylane/Perlane Fillers Restylane is a non-surgical way of instantly improving facial wrinkles and folds. It is the first cosmetic filler that provides skin rejuvenation while restoring volume and fullness to the skin by correcting moderate to severe facial wrinkles & folds. Used by dermatologists worldwide, it has been used in over 3 million treatments in over 60 countries. | Sclerotherapy What are Spider veins? What causes them?Spider veins are small superficial, discolored blood vessels that appear red or blue in the skin. They commonly occur on the legs, but are also found on the face, chest, neck, and other areas of the body. They may appear in a sunburst or spiderweb pattern, or as a series of short, unconnected lines. They may also appear along side larger varicose veins found usually on the legs. .Spider veins may be the result of various conditions: Sun damage Adult acne Diet Emotions Hormones MedicationsHow are spider veins treated?Spider veins are treated by a procedure called sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is the injection of aqueous solutions into abnormally dilated or cosmetically unsightly veins. The solution causes the veins to be absorbed and permanently disappear. These solutions cosmetically remove the undesirable veins over a period of weeks. Some veins will require several series of treatments for disappearance depending on size, quantity, depth, etc.Will I need more than one treatment?Each person is different. Depending on the area of treatment, we will customize a treatment plan for each individual. Typically a series of treatments are necessary to effectively remove the spider veins.Are there any side effects?Potential temporary side effects to sclerotherapy include:. Slight stinging or pain at the sites of injection Slight muscle cramps Red, raised areas at the sites of injection Temporary bruises Allergic reactions to certain sclerosing solutions Inflammation of treated blood vessels in injected vessels Transient blemishing of the skinWhat is the aftercare?Post treatment care is simply done by a moderate amount of walking after the procedure. You can resume your normal exercise activity the following day.Since the 1930s, sclerotherapy has been used to treat spider veins & varicose veins. Using one of several kinds of solutions, it is injected directly into the blood vessel with a fine needle. The solutions irritate the lining of the vessel causing it to swell. After a period of weeks, the vessels will start to fade, thus becoming barely visible. Each blood vessel may need to be injected more than once over a period of several weeks or months apart.
